


Background Artist
General Information
Contract: 4-month Internship
Location: Richmond, B.C., Canada
Work Model: Hybrid or Remote
Eligibility

You are enrolled at a university or education provider with a planned internship period within your studies.

You are eligible to work in Canada without an additional visa or relocation support.
Responsibility

You will create background and environment artwork that supports the project’s visual style and storytelling

You will design and paint environments based on concepts, layouts, and creative direction
-
You will collaborate with storyboard artists, animators, and designers to ensure visual consistency
-
You will revise and refine background artwork based on feedback and production needs
-
You will ensure backgrounds support character placement, perspective, scene readability
-
You will prepare layered and production-ready background assets when required
-
You will research visual references and assist with environment development when needed
Qualifications

Basic understanding of colour, lighting, perspective, and environmental composition

Fundamental digital painting or illustration skills

Familiarity with design software (e.g., Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or similar)

Ability to follow art direction, style guides, and visual references

Understanding of environmental storytelling and scene mood
-
Strong attention to detail and visual consistency

Willingness to accept feedback and revise artwork

Good time management and organizational skills

Ability to collaborate and communicate with team members

Portfolio demonstrating background, environment, or landscape artwork
